I pray blessings on you as you read.
(v. 11) "For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life."
The life of a creature is in the blood. How true that statement. It is very literal: if your blood stops flowing, you will die. The very next verse, God tells the Israelites that they not to eat blood. God says that the blood is to make atonement for ourselves.
In the times when God had told this to the Israelites, it was a custom that sacrifices would be made. There were different kinds of sacrifices. Burnt offerings, thank offerings, guilt offerings, grain, drink, peace, sin offerings. Many different kinds. Hard to keep track of, huh? These offerings were all a way for the Israelites to have and to keep a right relationship with God. Probably what you think of first when you hear (or see in this case!) the word sacrifice, is killing. Yes, that happened, they would kill animals for sacrifices.
Prayer Time
Now you talk to God about what you read, and you can even read this chapter of the Bible for yourself before you do. Thank you for taking the time to read, I pray that what you have read blesses and inspires you! Godbless!
