I have recently finished watching the Usopp story arc of One Piece & this video summarizes my thoughts on it.

-Usopp is a very determined character who won't give up no matter what. He is called an honorable liar because of the reason why he lies. In fact, I'm not so sure I would even call it "lies" but rather made up stories. Sure, they can be the same thing, but if someone knows your stories are made up, it's not really lies.

This concept reminds me of the movie Big Fish and the idea surrounding the stories that the father in that movie told his son. He exaggerated the facts to make the stories more interesting & lively for a child. That is the similar to reason Usopp told his stories; to comfort Kaya and cheer her up. Now his prank on the villagers saying "The pirates are coming!" was a blatant lie and caused the villagers to hate him and not believe him.

Despite what the villagers or anyone else thought of Usopp, he loved the village and he didn't want anything bad to happen to anyone there. He wanted them to continue living in peace & so he chose not to tell anyone about anything that happened.

I just really enjoy seeing the dynamics between Usopp and other characters. To some, he's hated. To others, he isn't liked much, but he is tolerated. And to some he is loved. It's funny that, with how much the villagers dislike Usopp, they kinda need him there to go about their lives normally. They've gotten so used to him running through the village with some kind of prank, yelling, that without him, they don't even know what time it is! I think it's cute how the other 3 boys from Usopp's pirate crew decided to carry on that legacy, as it were.

-Regarding Captain Kuro, he's a cold, calloused man who doesn't care for his crew. All of his crewmates are simply pawns in his plans. This contrasts with how Luffy is as a captain. Luffy actually cares about his crew and thinks Kuro should care about his. I like seeing these kinds of differences.
